U.S. Develops New Degradable Beverage Cup

The University of Michigan and the Greater London City Government of the United States have jointly developed a long-term, degradable beverage cup made from cereals. After being abandoned, it will not cause pollution to the environment.

This new type of beverage cup has some characteristics of plastic cups and paper cups. It can be used in a short period of time to contain beverages that are waterproof and oil-proof. When it exceeds the service life, it can be biodegraded and become a good fertilizer for gardens and grasslands. The method for making fertilizer is to cut the drink cup with a home lawn mower and then mix it with the soil to become a kind of compost that can be applied to gardens and meadows.

The use of cereals as a raw material for the processing of such beverage cups can be produced using equipment that originally produced plastic cups or paper cups without the need for new machinery.
