Showa Denko has successfully developed a osmotic dehydration membrane that removes water from fish or meat, thus providing a new method for the preservation of fish and meat.

This osmotic pressure dehydration membrane is a semipermeable membrane sandwiched with a polymeric absorbent. When the food is coated with the film and placed at a low temperature of 0 to 5°C, the food is dehydrated and preserved due to osmotic pressure.

This unique method of food preservation without the use of heat or additives is particularly suitable for low salt processing of foods.
