Acrobat 5.0 or earlier does not have the ability to pre-check PDFs. Checking PDF files must be done through other software (such as FlightCheck) or plug-in tools (such as Enfocus PitStop). Acrobat 6.0Pro, introduced by Adobe in 2003, is a great innovation. Among the new features related to pre-press are preflight (Preflight), more comprehensive review tools, group review, color separation processing, transparency processing, and PostScript output. Wait. This year, Adobe has launched a new version of Acrobat 7.0Pro, and the pre-press tools have been further improved. In this issue, I will introduce the pre-checking tool of 6.0Pro, and I will introduce 7.0Pro for you in the next issue. Common production problems that occur in documents such as QuarkXPress, InDesign, Illustrator, etc., such as insufficient image resolution, incorrect color settings, incorrect overprint settings, and font errors, will also occur in PDF files (usually due to the experience of the producer. Not a software or format problem). Let me list some problematic PDF files for demonstration. The first example is a 4-color printing project, but the file has one more spot color. We can use Separation Preview to check the color of the file. To start Separation Preview, select Advanced> Separation Preview. Please refer to Figure 1, Separation Preview shows that the file is 4C +1 spot orange, orange is mistakenly set as a spot color, so that we can correct it to 4 colors for printing through the software or the prepress system. If the 4-color print file contains RGB images, the Separation Preview will also be displayed as a 4-color image. It will not give you a warning or prompt. If you want to know if there are any 4-color images in the 4-color file, you can pass the pre-check "List all objects not 4C â€to check, select Document> Preflight, and then select List all objects not 4C, please refer to Figure 2 to Figure 5, Figure 5 find a problem picture according to this pre-check specification, select" Activate Snap "will display the problem image. Some specifications are only a single check. For example, the previous example "List all objects not 4C", another example "List all transparent objects" only checks whether the properties of the image or object are transparent, other problems will not be checked; another method to check transparent objects is "Transparency Flattener Preview", select Advanced> Transparency Flattener Preview, please refer to the figure Sixth, the Flattener Preview window shows that the shadow of the top text is a transparent object, PostScript RIP does not support transparent objects, but now some new systems have the function of transparent flattening (Transparency Flattening), flattening transparent objects before RIP work . Transparency is a dangerous thing. The old system cannot handle it naturally. It is also dangerous for some complex transparency effects to be processed by the new system. It is best to flatten the original software (such as InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) before converting it to PDF, then PDF files also have transparent visual effects but are actually flattened (not transparent for RIP). Note: Some of the above examples are more convenient to check with Enfocus PitStop, such as checking overprinting, but this tool is not built into Acrobat or a tool from Adobe. It needs to be purchased separately, and the price is approximately equivalent to an Acrobat Professional Edition. PitStop is a good PDF tool, especially the ability to modify PDF files is much stronger than Acrobat. I will introduce it to you in the future. Overprint setting is also a place where errors often occur. Please refer to Figure 7. We can use Preflight's "List all overprint objects" to check whether the text is overprinted on the colored ground. The black text should be set to overprint. The large black headline depends on the ground color. If the ground color is very dark, it may become inconsistent in the light and dark colors if the black large characters are printed on top.
Preflight's "List all potential problems" is a multi-check specification. It checks many basic problems (of course not all problems) including fonts, colors, image resolution, lines, PDF version, transparent objects, bad information, etc. The first field on the left of Figure 8 shows the content of this preflight specification. For more detailed understanding, double-click each item to enter its Conditions window. The editing range is limited.
