Yesterday, three new schools were officially opened in Xiangcheng District, including Yuanhe Elementary School (kindergarten), Xiangcheng District Special Education School, and Nanjing Normal University Suzhou Experimental School. These institutions have been praised for their advanced infrastructure and modern facilities. Among them, Nanjing Normal University Suzhou Experimental School has taken a significant step by incorporating 3D printing into its labor education curriculum, marking a bold move toward integrating technology with traditional learning. Located in the core area of Suzhou High Speed Rail New City, the school is a joint project between the local government and Nanjing Normal University. Over 200 first-, second-, and third-grade students began their journey at the school yesterday. Their first lesson was an exploration of the school's cutting-edge facilities, including the 3D lab where more than 10 3D printers are already in operation, producing models ranging from cartoon characters to educational tools and portraits. The junior middle school principal, Shu Hui, explained that each 3D printer costs between 20,000 and 30,000 yuan, and the lab is equipped with large interactive whiteboards and projectors. The school plans to introduce 3D printing as an elective course for senior students and primary school freshmen, allowing them to learn 3D design under teacher guidance, such as creating school badges or class emblems. In addition to the 3D lab, the school also features a science and technology museum, comprehensive practice classrooms, and courses covering precision, woodworking, electronics, calligraphy, and craft production. The Xiangcheng District Special Education School is the first institution in the district to combine special education with rehabilitation services, directly under the supervision of the District Education Bureau. According to the city and district education guidelines, children with disabilities such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, and Down syndrome who cannot attend regular schools can apply for enrollment. This year, the school admitted 42 students from kindergarten to fifth grade, with classes containing 7-8 students each, supported by two special education teachers and one life skills instructor. Students are grouped based on age and disability level, and they receive tailored education in areas like life language, math, music, and art to help develop their potential. The campus includes barrier-free facilities and specialized rooms such as family kitchens, hair salons, supermarkets, banks, language training centers, rhythm rooms, physical therapy areas, sensory classrooms, occupational therapy spaces, spa rooms, and music therapy rooms. Yuanhe Elementary School and Kindergarten also opened yesterday, featuring smart classrooms equipped with wireless internet and intelligent tablets. The school is currently testing its smart education system, which will allow parents to monitor classroom activities and communicate with teachers through a mobile app. This year, the school will open 14 classes for first and second graders, accommodating around 650 students. In addition to these new openings, several other schools underwent renovations or expansions. Taiping Experimental Primary School (kindergarten) started operations yesterday, while the newly built Wuhu School and Qikou Experimental Primary School are now complete. Infrastructure work is expected to be finished by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Huangqiao Experimental Primary School and Xiangcheng Secondary Professional School are undergoing reconstruction and expansion. New kindergartens, middle schools, and a teacher development center are also in the final stages of approval. Looking ahead, the Xiangcheng District Education Bureau will begin planning for the construction of Runyuan Elementary School (kindergarten), Yucheng First Kindergarten, Xiangcheng Second Experimental Middle School, Huangqiao Middle School, and Huangpi Central Primary School in the second half of the year.
