Dutch design and architecture enthusiast Stef de Vos has set up a company called Ittyblox, which specializes in 3D printing miniature models of various urban buildings and sells them in his Shapeways store. These small models with amazing details and realistic effects fully demonstrate the capabilities of current 3D printing technology and attract a group of fans.

“At the beginning we were just 3D printing separate buildings, but the number of prints was many, and naturally there were different buildings, parks, roads and streets, etc.” de Vos said. “Just like many train lovers and car enthusiasts will be obsessed with the train models and car models, Ittyblox is an architectural enthusiast, we focus on a variety of great buildings.”

Ittyblox had a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in March to 3D print the iconic building iron building in New York City and was a success. Now de Vos is trying to continue to raise funds on Kickstarter to 3D print a miniature Amsterdam.

These buildings were designed by de Vos, and the 3D printing was handed over to the online platform Shapeways. The printed materials used were full-color sandstone materials, so that the printed building surface had a little matte feel and taste. In addition, these buildings strive to be realistic, both in detail and in color.

“In order to build these buildings, I need to take photos on the spot, model through software, prototype, and then improve. The whole process is very time consuming and expensive,” he said. “If there are more resources, these processes can be improved.”

He said the proceeds will be used to buy better photographic equipment, upgrade his own photography studio, and hire additional modeling and photo editing, all in order to build and improve his work.

This time deVos will prepare 3D prints to include several of the more famous landmarks in Amsterdam, such as canal houses, a typical 1930s-style building, and a 17th-century tower. De Vos said that his intention is to hope that people from all over the world can enjoy the city's classic architecture through his 3D printed works.

The scale of these building miniature models is 1:1000, they are printed in a size of 1.177 × 1.063 × 0.994 inches, very compact, of course, they are also very cheap, only about 10 dollars. De Vos said that in the future he will release a world classic architectural model every week.
